    VAC won't work

Being new to Accpac and tossed in to the deep end of the pool, I'm sending out this DRFI (desperate request for information) hoping some knowledgeable and sympathetic soul will bail my sorry butt out:  cannot make VACATION earning operational.  Have looked in Getting Started manual and User Guide, but no joy.  The most distinguishable symptom:  in the Payroll Employee screen, under the Pay tab, the field "EMPLOYEE RATE/AMT/PCT" won't accept input for VACATION earning.  Does this suggest any obvious fault?  Feel it's probably in the earning setup screen, but hanged if I can see what it is.

    Thanks for your input,

    Richard

That's not how it works.  You set up the accrual globally.  If you want different rates, you set up different earnings codes.

    further to your explanation

It is linked to another earning code that is in use.  Does this imply that when processing that the vacation time on the timecard will be processed for payment?

Yes.  Give it a try, you can't hurt anything unless you print and post the check.  Better yet, Dbdump and Dbload your data to a test company.

    muchas gracias

Thanks for your kind assist.  I had always worked in companies with an IT dept. and find myself in a small firm with no IT dept.  I would rather try to figure it out on my own, but the payroll still has to be accomplished even as I flail about.

    Again, thanks for your guidance.

In order to make vacation earning operational you have to set up a code for vacation accrual under Payroll Setup /Earning and Deductions

Set up all your parameters there and then add the code to the employee pay screen. (just the code, you don’t have to add any dollar amounts under "EMPLOYEE RATE/AMT/PCT field )

The code will work automatically when you run your payroll. Will calculate percentage of your base and add to the employee accrual.

Check you Pre-Cheque Register and make sure that your accrual works.

    Vacation accrual

I've been making a crucial error when in the CALCULATE PAYROLL screen:  failing to INCLUDE EARNINGS/DEDUCTIONS with MONTHLY frequency, which is how the Vacation accrual is setup.

I'm still analyzing the other accrual parameters to insure a match with the written policy; I'll also need to investigate exceptions, i.e. the employee who is granted 2 weeks of vacation eligibility from day one.

I have since learned that all Payroll parameters and options were mapped over several years ago when the company upgraded from the dos version and had not been validated.  We can pay our folks well enough, but a review and verification is long overdue.

    Again, thanks for your response.
