Install ACCPAC 5.3A and 5.5A in 1 server

    Hi all,

Anybody has tried to install ACCPAC 5.3A and 5.5A in 1 PC Server ?

I think we can separate the installation folder.

    example : C:\Program Files\ACCPAC53A for ACCPAC 5.3A

                    C:\Program Files\ACCPAC55A for ACCPAC 5.5A

Is it right ? Can it works normally ?

Please give me some information for this case.

    Thanks.

Why would you want to do that?  Just run the 5.3 modules in the 5.5 system manager.

because i want to give trial for user but i only have 1 pc server.

i provide 2 PC (first PC installed with ACCPAC 5.3A and one more installed with ACCPAC 5.5A)

in server side i have two databases, one for 5.3A and one for 5.5A.

when they try to input in ACCPAC 5.5A for 3 days and the process goes well, then i will cut off the 5.3A database.

is it ok ? what do u think ?

how to run 5.3 modules in the 5.5 system manager ?

Since the two client PCs are separate installs, that will work.  But the whole thing sounds silly, nobody uses 5.3 anymore, 5.5 is better.

yes, it's true for the two client PCs.

but how about the server PC ?
is it possible to install ACCPAC 5.3A and ACCPAC 5.5A ?

    two separate installation folder :
    1. ACCPAC 5.3A use C:\Program Files\ACCPAC
    2. ACCPAC 5.5A use C:\Program Files\ACCPAC55A

    two different database :
    1. DB53A
    2. DB55A

any issue if i temporary install two ACCPAC in server ?

then when the client ready to fully use ACCPAC 5.5A, i will drop the DB53A.

    any suggestion ?

    thanks.

This is getting stupid.    No, you cannot run two temporary versions of Accpac on the server.  You can store the files there in different folders, both programs and data, but switching between versions is asking for trouble.  As I said before, there are no benefits to doing any 5.3 installs, I have no idea why you want to do this.

Re: Install ACCPAC 5.3A and 5.5A in 1 server

If we're talking about application: there's no way to install two versions of System Manager on 1 machine, even you've separated the installation folders. The only option is to upgrade your Accpac 5.3 to version 5.5.

But I have this situation in my office:

    1. There're 3 users from Finance & Tax Department using database A that already been upgraded to accpac version 5.5
    2. There're 2 users from Procurement Dept using database A & database B. Database B is still in version 5.3

The problem is: Users that still use System Manager 5.3 can not access database that had already been upgraded to the newer version.

Since there's no way to install two versions of System Manager on 1 machine, especially for users from Procurement Dept, then I installed Microsoft Virtual PC to the workstations used by Procurement Dept users. The virtual PC contains System Manager 5.5.

So if they want to access Database A, they used the Virtual PC.

Stupid solution isn't it? If anybody has another solution for the case, please share :)
