    Dynamic Datasources

    Hi Report Gurus!

For most of our clients, I can create reports in Crystal XI using the SAMINC datasource, and when I drop them into ACCPAC they automatically attach to the datasource that the user has logged into.

We have one client where we need to create 3 of the same report set to their particular datasources (they have 3 databases) because they will not load data from the datasource logged into if it is different then one one used when the report was saved.

Does anyone know why this happens and how I can make it dynamic so that we only need to maintain one copy of each document?

    Thanks, Laura

Drop a shortcut to the Crystal report on the Accpac desktop, Accpac will automatically substitute the database for the report when you launch it from the Accpac desktop - provided that you used an ODBC connection in the report.

In the Accpac Desktop, I am right-clicking-> New-> Report and connecting to the path where the report is.  It still will not pick up the new datasource.  Normally that's all I need to do, but that is not working.

Are all the tables in the report Accpac tables?

     Yes.

They use 3 Citrix Servers, each one has all datasources on ODBC.  Not sure if that complicates the matter but I can't think of why it would.

When you're in Crystal and you're connecting to the data, are you using a DSN with SQL Authentication (you have to type a password), or Windows Authentication?  The former should be used.

     SQL Authentication.

One other weird thing that we just saw, in changing the datasource in the subsequent files in Crystal, by going to Set Datasource Location-> Clicking on the new dataset and hitting Update-> The datasource name changes, but the catalog remains the original datasource, an dthe report deosn't bring any info back.  You have to go and update on each table individually before it works.  Hmm...
